Gonegold Glossary

  • Andy - The keeper of the Gold Guide, the definitive guide to gaming on the Internet. Andy, like Joel, has a ridiculously large collection of games, though it pales in comparison to his collection of music.

  • Bakhtosh Redclaw - Moderator of the Hardware Help forum, Bakhtosh took his name from the classic game Wing Commander. Whatever you do, don't touch his Jalthi!

  • Ban-O-God - An extremely powerful device developed by the joeyjazz corporation to aid the most demanding moderators in their banning needs. With the years of banning experience we put into each product, there is really little else to say. Your very own Metalhed is one of our most avid customers, always keeping up with the latest lines of our banning products. We like to consider the consistently good condition of his forum as testament towards the effectiveness of our products.

  • bcr19374 - bcr19374 has the honor of being the Gonegolder with the highest Post Per Day (see PPD) count from the beginning of his Gonegolder days (10.7).

  • Cancer Project - Gonegolders can cure cancer by signing up to help with the THINK cancer research project.

  • CeeKay - Insightful, Eloquent, Sane - none of these can be used to describe his writing style (or personality for that matter). Former anchorman for the now defunct 'Weekly News Update'. He is also a member of Modcheck and has gone through several incarnations due to various crashes.

  • Dave Fisher - Dave is always looking for value in gaming and shares his findings once a week in the Value of the Week column. He is also in charge of the excellent group of Gonegold reviewers and the Weekly Values forum.

  • Evil - Evil, thy name is Joel Mathis. (see Joel Mathis)

  • Fantasy Sports - Many Gonegolders are obsessed with sports and have started Gonegold leagues for just about every fantasy sport.

  • Farleybarnstorm - Farleybarnstorm moderates the Console Games forum. Apparently he enjoys console games...and is somehow proud of that fact.

  • Five Million Project - A card created by Gonegolders to celebrate Gonegold's 5 Millionth visitor.

  • GGBS - GoneGold Brute Squad. This is a group of Gonegolders who have dedicated themselves to fighting for all that is right and just. They are available to fight when ever and where ever needed and can be distinguished by their lime green speedos. The mere mention of a group of mostly overweight gaming geeks in lime green speedos is generally enough to make the most hardened criminal think twice before committing a crime.

  • GGBS - Secondary Meaning - a computer game developed by Joel Mathis which allows Gonegolders to fight for all that is right and true in the safety of your own home.

  • Gold Guide, The - Andy's collection of every review, fan site, patch and preview of just about every game ever made. This is one of Gonegold's greatest features.

  • Gold Light Special - Look for the light on the main page to be lit during Gold Light Specials which occur irregularly and always feature someone winning a game.

  • Gonegolders - members of the Gonegold forums with at least 10 posts.

  • Gonegolders Project - A collection of stalker information about members of the Gonegold forums run by Tim.

  • Gonegoldstock - Gonegoldstock is a meeting of Gonegolders planned for the late summer or early fall of 2001. The event will be held in Indianapolis (the home of Rich and Gonegold) and will feature a lot of gaming and a lot of drinking. All Gonegolders are invited to attend.

  • Goovus - See Metalhed.

  • Greater Server Crash of 2000 - In December of 2000 the forums crashed for a few days. At the end of it all, several people had lost their accounts and had to create new ones. The cause has never been determined, but it is believed to be related to the Monty Python thread that was running at the time.

  • Greybeard - Greybeard at first hated Diablo 2, but somehow came to love it. He has not been seen for a long time despite the fact that he is moderator of the Demo Impressions forum. Very little is known about this Gonegolder, though rumor has it he is one of the older people around here...

  • HWSNBN - He Who Shall Not Be Named - A game developer who's responsible not only for a game about a Battlecruiser, but also for Joel almost abandoning the Hot Sheet for good.

  • Hot Sheet, The - Joel Mathis' daily column which is generally used to complain about all that is wrong in the world of gaming. Insightful, witty and crabby are just some of the words used to describe The Hot Sheet.

  • Imlawboy - The leader of the Gonegold Legal Squad, Imlawboy is also moderator of the The Trading Place forum. He also seems to have some dealings with a strange website called Previewed DVD and has been trying to steal people from this forum and bring them there. His efforts have been largely unsuccessful.

  • J - This was a contributing (though very opinionated) member of the forums. Unfortunately he exhibited some bad behavior at one point and things went downhill from there. Suffice it to say that his account at Gonegold no longer exists. There are whisperings, though, that he may still exist under a different moniker.

  • Joel Mathis - Author of the daily Hot Sheet and the source of most of the world's evil, Joel has been working with Rich for quite some time. He has a collection of games larger than most game stores. He has been described as a curmugeon and a cynic as well as many other less flattering things.

  • joeyjazz - President and CEO of the Joeyjazz Corporation, maker of the Ban-O-God.

  • Kelric Varchilde - Kelric is a junior Gonegolder and is only 16. As a youngster we have all taken him under our wings and will attempt to help raise him to be a good and well-behaved adult. So far our progress has been slow and does not show much promise.

  • LaPorte Effect, The - The LaPorte affect occurs when Rich raves about a game in his Roll Calls. Invariably people reading the Roll Call are drawn to that game, purchase it (or go back to it if it is an older game) and begin to enjoy it themselves.

  • Lesser Server Crash of 2001 - On May 7, 2001 the forums crashed. As with the last crash, the cause is believed to be related to a Monty Python thread that was running. At this time Joel took the time to upgrade the forums to the newest version of UBB.

  • Lime Green Speedos - The trademark of the GoneGold Brute Squad, these "teenie greenies" are worn not only to distinguish the GGBS, but also as a defense mechanism as they tend to strike fear into the hearts of criminals.

  • Loco - We know very little about Loco except that he moderates the Gone Gold Madden 2001 PC League Forum.

  • Merneith - Best known for her hilariously insightful comments and for being one of the very few female Gonegolders, Merneith is the moderator of the Everything But Gaming forum.

  • Metalhed - Moderator, fragger UT terror, Metalhed is best known for whoopin' butt on UT. He has had to use his moderating powers only once, but did a grand job.

  • Modcheck - A program developed to keep tabs on Moderators and to ensure they do not abuse their powers. We have yet to determine if Modcheck will last or if it is nothing but a fad. The program was founded by Vanguard.

  • Monty Python - Please do not EVER start a Monty Python thread at Gonegold. This is a determining factor in both the Greater and Lesser forum crashes.

  • Napoleon - A strange Dutch guy who is an aspiring lawyer and part of the GoneGold Legal Team as well as a member of the popular fad Modcheck. As part of the GGBS, he is responsible for guarding Gonegold's interests throughout Europe. He fights equally well with the pen and the speedo.

  • PPD - Posts Per Day - A system of keeping track of who posts the most per day. This information is tabulated on a defined but irregular schedule and is then compiled and displayed for all to see. The next PPD is likely to occur sometime in June.

  • Peacedog - Peacedog moderates the PC Games By Title forum. We know little else about him.

  • Rich LaPorte - The owner, operator and founder of Gonegold. Formerly an NYPD cop and now a webmaster of the best gaming site on the Web, Rich has created the best community the Internet has to offer.

  • Rob Merritt - Moderator, cynic, proud aetheist and lover of Lego.

  • Roll Call - Rich's daily ramblings, stories and words of wisdom offered up on the main page. It is like the ongoing story of one gaming knucklehead's life with a new chapter written every day.

  • Shaytan - Shaytan is the leader of the Russian contingent of Gonegold. As part of the GGBS, he is responsible for guarding Gonegold's interests throughout all of Russia and the rest of the former Soviet Union. He also contributed a great drawing to the 5 Million Project.

  • Simon - A displaced Brit living in the USA and a devout Gone Golder, Simon helps to keep The Trading Place in order, enjoys fragging Gone Golders in UT, and is leading the charge with one of the highest post counts of all Gone Golders. Although a few people have unjustly accused him of spamming to run up his post count, no evidence to prove this has ever been found. He is also the newest Gonegold moderator!

  • SPAM - There has been congecture that spamming has occured on the boards, though no one has ever been able to prove it.

  • Teenie Greenies - See Lime Green Speedos.

  • The Meal - The Meal seems to have two passions: hockey and SMAC (Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri). He constantly keeps many PBEM games of SMAC underway and moderates many others. He likes to drag SMAC into every conversation...

  • Tim - Selfless keeper of the Gone Gold Project and numerous other ventures, fantasy baseball fan, and our official Canadian mascot.

  • Tiny Fuzz - At the bottom of each roll call is Tiny Fuzz, the miniature cop who marches on and on, defending Gonegold.

  • Two Million Project - Way back when Gonegold surpassed the 2 Million hit mark, a card was created to celebrate the achievement.

  • Value of the Week - Dave Fisher writes this column once a week which examines specials at gaming stores seeking to find the best values on new and bargain bin games. This column always appears on Mondays.

  • Vanguard - All around strange guy, long-time Gonegolder and founder of Modcheck.

  • Wham, Bam, Thank You GRX-691 - What the ultimate name for a battlebot is and always shall be.
